Jade: Stone of Heaven
Marsha Vargas Handley will discuss the complexities in identifying and valuing jade objects. This presentation will look at the importance of jade with focus on China, but also touching on Pre-Columbian, Americas and India from 5000 BCE to the present. We will examine carvings as well as jewelry and address the variety of stones that are called “jade”. Marsha will give hints as to how to assess whether a carving is actually jade, jadeite or some other stone.
