Norcal Chapter President’s Message

I hope that everyone had a restful and happy summer. During the summer, our board members have been working diligently to organize chapter programs for the fall, winter and spring that will give you opportunities to learn new information in our profession, as well as network and enjoy.  Please take a moment to study the program offerings for the fall and sign up early, as we often sell out.

We are also starting something new.  We decided to look for some new venues, locations and times for our Chapter Meetings, hoping to serve more of our members. I hope that you will join us at the University Club for our first noon meeting. It will be in downtown San Francisco at the University Club on Wednesday, September 12.

We also want to hear from you. Please email me, or any of the board members with your thoughts. We welcome your ideas and comments.

Our NorCal Chapter was awarded two awards from ASA National this year!

We won an award for Outreach Program for a seminar program organized by our chair of Personal Property, Jeremy Stone, to reach out and educate clients about appraisals. It was co-sponsored by the San Francisco Art Dealers Association. It included a brochure given to all attendees about our individual accredited Personal Property members, designed by Carol DiGiovanni. This is a program that will be repeated again in February 2018.

We also won an award for Membership Recruitment Strategy.  Joe Orlando, our Business Valuation Discipline chair, decided to think outside the box by inviting potential members to events, getting their companies to sponsor them, and doing programming that would be of interest to new members.  Since January 2017 we had approximately 30 new Business Valuation candidates join our chapter as a result of Joe’s efforts.

Remember to keep track of your own CE credits.  Headquarters no longer will be doing it for you, but you will still this when you re-accredit every five years.

As you may know, we have a new governor for Region Five. Our new governor is our NorCal past president, Garrett Swartz, ASA MTS, and we all offer him our greatest congratulations. Garrett will be responsible for the governance of 13 chapters in the eight western states including California, as well as Australia, Western Canada, Japan, China, and Hong Kong.

Louise Allrich, ASA – President, ASA NorCal
