Join us for the February Chapter Meeting when our speaker, Professor Michael Lehman, Ph.D., Faculty Emeritus, University of San Francisco, will guide us on a “step back”, with a review and discussion of macro-economic history and what we can learn from the past as we seek to navigate the economic road ahead.

Prof. Lehman will talk about declining profitability, its effect on the stock market, and the effect of the incomplete recovery of the housing and residential real estate markets on the economy. This look at global economic trends, sources of prior recessions, market bubbles, and economic recoveries may even help us to understand what to expect during the Trump presidency.

Prof. Lehman promises to leave plenty of time for questions and discussion of the topics that are of the greatest interest to appraisers from ALL disciplines.

NEWS FROM OUR EVENTS

REAL PROPERTY
Real Property Chair BRAD MacLANE, ASA has organized two well-received and attended events as part of an ongoing series. In December “Financial Statement Analysis for Real Property Going Concerns” and in January “Fractional Undivided Interests in Real Estate” classes were held at the Lafayette Library & Learning Center. Watch for news of more offerings in this series later in the year.

PERSONAL PROPERTY
In late January, Personal Property Chair JEREMY STONE, ASA organized, “Working with Galleries: What Art Appraisers Need to Know,” hosted by Rena Bransten Projects in San Francisco. The intent of this mini-seminar was to open a dialog with the art galleries in Northern California about what the American Society of Appraisers represents and why accreditation is meaningful. Jeremy invited three well-known gallerists as panel members, and three Accredited Senior Appraisers of fine art joined them to discuss how best to navigate the overlapping roles of appraisers and galleries in the appraisal process. The event drew an impressive crowd of of over 50 people including most of our ASA NorCal fine art appraisers, fine art appraisers gallery owners and many of their employees, along with museum professionals.
